Brainstorming.
Putting your heads together.
Dreaming up.
Kicking around.
Conceptualizing.
Whatever you want to call it. It’s the idea that begins something new. Something fresh. Something personal.
Each Wednesday evening, several individuals (our lead pastor, myself, our design director, our worship leaders, and a mixture of creative individuals and knowledgeable students of the Bible) meet together in the conference room of Renaissance Road Church to plan, review, and critique future potential messages, and message series.
I’m thankful to serve a pastor who prepares many weeks in advance for our weekly Sunday worship experience. The team I meet with plans the direction of our message series ideas, themes, and concepts approximately 10 to 12 months in advance. We further develop the ideas and plan our messages, music, and creative ideas approximately two months (or 8 to 10 weeks) in advance.
Our conference room at church is lined with white boards, so we fill them with our ideas (no matter how off the wall they may sound).
Wednesday night we brainstormed a message series for the month of July. Originally (last October) we had entertained several options in regards to message series for the month of July. (This month tends to be rather busy for families in our congregation.) But after much prayer the leadership team has decided to press forward with a message series on the idea of living radically.
Here are some pictures of the brainstorm.
